PURPOSE: A welding helmet including an automatic light-shading unit, and a controlling method thereof are provided to directly attach a safety surface to the face of a worker, and to automatically protect eyes of the worker during a welding process. CONSTITUTION: A welding helmet including an automatic light-shading unit comprises a helmet body(110), light-shield glass(310), a drive unit(320), a torch switch, and a micro-computer(340). The helmet body is closely attached to the face of a worker, and includes a transparent window(120) on the front side. The light-shield glass can be ascended inside the transparent window. The drive unit is mounted on one side of the helmet for operating the light-shield glass for opening and closing the transparent window. The torch switch is installed on a torch connected to a welder body using a cable. The micro-computer operates the drive unit when the torch switch is turned off for opening the transparent window.
