An inset tip for use in an expandable drawing or extrusion die comprises a cylindrical rod, Fig. 6, of which each end is bounded by at least one semi-cylindrical concavity of the same radius as the tip cross-section. The inset tips are positioned to form the die orifice within semicylindrical recesses 14 in adjustably located segments 3 such that one end of each inset abuts an adjacent inset and the other end abuts a semi-cylindrical abutment 7. The inset tips may be repositioned when worn to present a new working surface. The semi-cylindrical concavities of the inset tip may be aligned or arranged at right angles to each other as shown in Fig. 6. Each end of the tip may be concaved by two cruciformly arranged semi-cylindrical concavities. The concavities may be so positioned that the insert tips form a non-rectangular die orifice.
