1,235,073. Rotary filing; feeding blanks. CONTINENTAL CAN CO. Inc. 6 March, 1969 [8 March, 1968], No. 12010/69. Headings B3B and B3K. The marginal portions of metallic blanks 12 for use in the manufacture of welded-seam cans are cleaned by feeding the blanks past rotary abrasive tools, e.g. files 66 ... 69 extending at an acute angle to the direction of feed of the blanks, the blanks being flexed and resiliently biased against the tools as they move therepast. The tools are driven by pneumatic or electric motors 64 and are mounted for angular adjustment about the axes of mounting shafts 56, 61. A relieved area in the feed table or guide means opposite each tool provides for the blank to make resilient, flexural contact with the tool during machining. The blanks are fed from a supply stack at a station 44 by parallel chains having a series of projecting lugs 28 with arms 30 which engage the rear edges of the blanks, and are deposited in a receptacle 50 after machining. |
