System for placing a segment on a piston of an internal combustion engine

The system has a de-stacking device to de-stack segments, and an expansion device to expand inner diameter of the segments. A guide with grooves (231, 232) guides each segment in translation between the devices. A component (211) of a drive device drives the segment in the guide between the de-stacking and expansion devices. A force measuring sensor (221) measures drive force of the segment by the drive device. A controller (7) selectively interrupts the drive of the segment according to the measured force. The drive device has an electric motor with a variator and a support forming carriage.
