1316705 Methanol synthesis METALLGESELLSCHAFT AG 19 April 1971 [20 March 1970] 24263/71 Heading C2C In the synthesis of methanol, a gaseous hydrocarbon or hydrocarbon mixture is cracked by reaction with steam in the presence of an indirectly heated metallic Ni containing catalyst at 750-950‹ C. under 10-20 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP> absolute and the resulting synthesis gas is cooled, compressed to 30-80 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP> and reacted in the presence of a metallic Cu containing catalyst at 230-280‹ C., the catalyst being indirectly cooled by boiling water under superatmospheric pressure with the production of high pressure steam, which may be optionally superheated by excess heat from the cracking process, and which, on expansion, liberates energy required for the compression of the synthesis gas. |
