Apparatus for heating and humidifying sheet material comprises a hollow body which is supplied with moist steam under pressure and has means for discharging said steam along one side thereof, and means for circulating a heated fluid, separately from the moist steam, through the hollow body. As shown, the hollow body 11 is of triangular cross-section and is used to heat ducts 83, 85 moving along convergent paths prior to their lamination. Partitions 29, 31 divide the interior of the body into three chambers, the upper and lower chambers 33, 37 being connected at one end of the apparatus. Steam is supplied to chamber 33 and withdrawn via a pipe 47 extending through chamber 37. The central chamber 35 is supplied with moist steam at a plurality of spaced points (Fig. 1, not shown) and has apertures in its walls, the apertures being covered by plates 75 which have slots 77 for directing the steam on to sheets 83, 85. A perforated conduit 79 removes excess steam and any condensate from chamber 35 which is provided with an arcuate wiremesh baffle 69 for pressure equalization along the chamber. |
