<p>A seismic energy source includes a base plate (77) having a first electromagnet (37) thereon. A reaction mass (74) has a second electromagnet (39) thereon. A switchable current source (43) is connected to the first and second electromagnets such that the first electromagnet (37) repels the second electromagnet (39). At least one damper (71) is functionally connected between the reaction mass (74) and the base plate (77).
