PURPOSE: A wireless communication based smart meter system and a smart metering method using the same are provided to remove inconvenience of wireless access profile configuration and storage for constructing a HAN(Home Area Network) by automating from a preparation stage to an activation stage to construct a wireless network. CONSTITUTION: A wireless communication based smart meter system includes a smart meter(100) and a smart box(200). The smart meter measures electric power consumption and installs an RFID tag storing wireless access profile information and a wireless interface. The smart box generates wireless access profile information of the smart meter, inputs the wireless access profile information in the RFID tag of the smart meter and installs an RFID reader extracting the wireless access profile information input in the RFID tag and a wireless interface.
