A flow of separated fibres, pref. transported by a compressed air current, is introduced transversely, into a tube formed of a mesh of continuous filaments, after which the tube is cut and flattened. The tube is formed continuously and the fibres may be of glass, metal or asbestos, whilst the filaments may be polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, polyurethane, polyaminocaprolactam, polyacrylonitrile, polyethylene terephthalate etc.
