<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the safety of a head-mounted display (HMD) against contact with a user when the HMD is used. <P>SOLUTION: A display unit 12 of the HMD is divided into a body portion 210 for forming image light and an emission port portion 214 having an emission port through which the formed image light is emitted to eyes of an observer, and the body portion and the emission port portion are removably connected to each other by external force. When, with the HMD mounted on the head of the observer, a first external force acts on the emission port portion in response to contact of the emission port portion (for example, a half mirror 260) with eyes or their neighbors of the face of the observer face or a tool located in the front of eyes of the observer to protect them, the emission port portion is disconnected from the body portion by the first external force. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
