<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid pump including: a pumping element; an electric motor coupled to the pumping element to drive the pumping element for rotation; and a brush housing which defines brush cavities in which brushes are received. <P>SOLUTION: An electric motor 14 has a commutator 20, brushes 44 engaged with the commutator 20 to provide electricity to the commutator 20, and at least one biasing member biasing the brushes 44 into engagement with the commutator 20. A brush housing 28 defines brush cavities 36 in which the brushes 44 are received. The brushes 44 have a first surface 46 engaged with the commutator 20, and a second surface 48 separated from the first surface 46 and acted upon by the at least one biasing member.
