PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming method capable of easily forming a printed matter of a black image while preventing confidential information from be recognized from a thermal transfer sheet discharged during image formation, and the thermal transfer sheet and thermal transfer image receiving paper to be used in the image forming method.

SOLUTION: This image forming method for forming an image by a thermal transfer system includes: a thermal transfer sheet preparation process for preparing the thermal transfer sheet 1 formed by laminating a first base material 2 and a leuco dye layer 3 containing leuco dye; a thermal transfer image receiving paper preparation process for preparing the thermal transfer image receiving paper 51 formed by laminating a second base material 52 and an accepting layer 53 containing color developing agent; and a heating process for overlapping the thermal transfer sheet 1 and the thermal transfer image receiving paper 51 with each other to oppose the leuco dye layer 3 to the accepting layer 53 and heating a surface different from the surface provided with the leuco dye layer 3 of the thermal transfer sheet 1 to form a colored image on the thermal transfer image receiving paper 51.
