<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a sliding loss generated between a cylinder and a piston. <P>SOLUTION: A closed compressor includes an airtight container, and a compression element and an electric element, which are housed in the airtight container. The compression element, which is driven by the electric element via a crankshaft, comprises the cylinder 1 which forms a cylinder chamber, the piston 4 which reciprocates in the cylinder, and a connecting rod 2 which connects the crankshaft and the piston together. In addition, a lower limit of a rotational speed range, in which the electric element is operated, is set at 1,500 min<SP POS="POST">-1</SP>or less, and a central axis line 1c of the cylinder is offset with respect to the center 7n of rotation of the crankshaft.
