<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recording apparatus and a cleaning method for a conveyance belt, capable of cleaning the conveyance belt, while preventing an enlargement of the apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The ink jet recording apparatus causes a recording head 1, which has an emission port for emitting ink, to scan a recording medium conveyed by the endless conveyance belt 6, and performs recording on the recording medium. The ink jet recording apparatus comprises: a conveying mechanism configured to drive the conveyance belt 6; a belt-like cleaning web 11 configured to clean the conveyance belt 6 in contact with the surface of the conveyance belt 6; and a cleaning mechanism configured to drive the cleaning web 11.
