A tool holder e.g. for attachment to a boring- bar, has a tool-receiving member displaceable relative to the axis of the holder in a lateral direction by relative axial displacement between a bar 16 and a bore having corresponding surfaces whose common axis is oblique relative to the axis of the holder. The tool-receiving member 10 has a rear part 10b slidable laterally of the holder axis 13 in guides (14) (Fig. 3, not shown) formed by a mounting member 11, the members 10, 11 being held against relative rotation. Such sliding movement is caused by axial displacement e.g. by means of a motordriven lead screw, of a bar 16 whose forward portion 16a is slidable in a bush 19 in the part 10b, the common axis 18 of the portion 16a and the bush being oblique to the axis 13. Sliding of the part 10b relative to the mounting member 11, in one direction, is against the force of a spring 21. |
