<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scanning optical device that detects out-of-focus information on the light imaged on a scanned surface with high accuracy in an area other than an image formation area and forms a high-definition image, and an image forming device. <P>SOLUTION: The distance between the imaging positions of light fluxes is detected at a light emitting timing of a light source so that output ratio of a plurality of signals detected by a light detection part falls within a predetermined range, on the basis of write timing.
