Composition (14) comprises absorbent or encapsulant polymer and polyphenols. Independent claims are included for: (1) producing the composition comprising immersing the absorbent polymer in a solution comprising polyphenols, and extracting the absorbent polymer from the solution; (2) a device comprising the composition that is present in a closed container and a filter (12) for the diffusion of polyphenols to the outside of the container in an aqueous medium while retaining the polymer within the container; and (3) treating algicide, algistatic, herbicide or herbistatic comprising contacting the composition or the device with the aqueous medium of aquatic macrophyte and/or algae to be treated and removing the composition or the device from the medium.
