An air bag (10) is filled with unfolding gas through the gas generator (8). The airbag has an impact portion (16) which is formed on the front passenger side facing the gas generator. The airbag is designed so that support portion (14) which rests on the instrument panel, is formed on the front passenger side facing away from the gas generator during the unfolded and filled state.
