PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for producing an azahelicene-based compound which is expected to be applied to various optical devices such as an organic EL element, a fluorescent material, and a nonlinear optical material; and to provide a method for producing a compound with a helical structure without being limited to an azahelicene-based compound.

SOLUTION: The method for producing an azahelicene-based compound, in which the azahelicene-based compound is synthesized via an intramolecular C-H arylation reaction in the coexistence of a silver salt by using a nitrogen-containing alkenyl halide biaryl compound as a starting raw material, and the method for producing an azahelicene-based compound, in which the azahelicene-based compound is synthesized via an intramolecular C-H arylation reaction after oxidizing a nitrogen-containing alkenyl halide biaryl compound, are used.
