The method involves providing diagnostic data from several diagnostic units (D1-D4) to one of vehicle components (K1-K4) of a motor car (2). The diagnostic units are actuated by a control device (3) such that each diagnostic unit transmits the available diagnosis data to the control device. The diagnosis data is evaluated by the control device. A determined diagnostic unit is again actuated by the control device such that the supplementary diagnosis data is provided to the assigned vehicle component from the determined diagnostic unit.
