A washing machine and a washing method, comprising at least one washing tub used for washing or water-retaining, a washing medium layer (3) arranged on the at least one washing tub, where the washing medium layer (3) is a polymer absorption layer. The invention relies on the washing medium layer (3) arranged on the washing tub to process contaminants in clothes (5) and in washing water, thereby achieving the goal of washing. This not only simplifies the washing process, as with ordinary washing machines, but also allows for greatly reduced material costs and manufacturing costs of this type of washing machines. In addition, the degree of wearing is greatly reduced for the clothes (5) when being washed.
