1,255,523. Bottle filling apparatus; filling bottles with powders. G. B. HARLEY, G. HARLEY, and P. B. HARLEY. 13 July, 1970 [6 Aug., 1969], No. 39412/69. Headings B8C and B8T. Apparatus for filling containers with fluid (including particulate material) comprises a sealing pad 1 carrying a filling tube 2, a suction probe 3 and a pressure probe 4. Fluid material enters the container 5 until level 5A is reached. Excess fluid enters the suction probe 3, causing a pressure rise above the fluid, the rise being sensed by the pressure probe 4, thereby terminating the fluid flow. The filling cycle starts when a bleed valve 7 is closed by a mechanical actuator 9 operated when the container 5 reaches its filling position. Port 10 of a fluidic relay receives a signal, the output of which at port 12 passes to a booster valve 13, causing high pressure air from source B to operate the piston 14a, resulting in the pad 1 abutting the container and mechanically causing valve 15 to admit fluid to the filling tube 2. When the fluid reaches level 5A, the pressure increase is sensed by a diaphragm amplifier 17 which relays pressure from source A to a port 18 of a module 11, causing the output at port 12 to switch to port 19 through which passes the compressed air from A to port 20. Module 11 is, thus, held in this mode until valve 7 is again actuated, this time disconnecting port 10. The switching of output causes the booster valve 13 to disconnect cylinder 14 from source B allowing spring 21 to lift the pad 1 from the container, thereby closing the fluid supply valve 15. The fluid supply can be manually terminated by actuating a piston 22.
|
