<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drive unit for an in-wheel motor type electric vehicle which can rigidly fix a hub unit 15 and a housing 16 even if the thickness of the housing 16 is thinned and its axial length is shortened. <P>SOLUTION: The drive unit for the electric vehicle comprises; an electric motor 11; a speed reduction unit 12 which is driven by an output of the electric motor 11; the hub unit 15 rotated by an output member 14 which is coaxial with an input shaft 13 of the speed reduction unit 12; and the housing 16 for accommodating the electric motor 11 and the speed reduction unit 12. A flange 22 is arranged at an outside member 21 of the hub unit 15, and the flange 22 is bolt-fastened to a ring gear 42 in the housing 16 with the wall face of the housing 16 therebetween, thus thinning the thickness of the housing itself by bolt-fastening, reducing weight and shortening the axial length. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
