<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bearing apparatus for a wheel capable of suppressing the generation of cracks of a caulking part following caulking while carrying out weight and size reduction, and improving reliability by a joining member to be changed into the caulking part. <P>SOLUTION: The bearing apparatus for the wheel includes: an outer member 2 integrally having a body mounting flange 2b at an outer circumference and formed with a plurality of rows of outer side rolling faces 2a at an inner circumference; an inner member 1 integrally having a wheel mounting flange 6 at one end, and constituted of a hub ring 4 formed with one inner side rolling face 4a at an outer circumference and a small diameter step 4b extending in an axial direction from it, and an inner ring 5 forced in the small diameter step 4b and formed with the other inner side rolling face 5a at an outer circumference; and a plurality of rows of rolling elements 3 held to freely roll between both rolling faces via a retainer 8. In the bearing apparatus, a joining member 7 is joined by friction welding to both an end face 11 of the small diameter step 4b of the hub ring 4 and a large end face 5b of the inner ring 5, and the inner ring 5 is fixed in the axial direction to the hub ring 4 in a state of being applied with a predetermined bearing preload. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
