The invention relates to a transducer and to a process for continuously monitoring underground water prone to pollution with petroleum products as films. According to the invention, the transducer is placed within a float () and comprises a tube () which contains a sorbent granular material () having dielectric properties, placed between two insulated electrodes (), the lower part of the tube () being perforated up to a level () above which there is placed a hydrophobic material () supporting the granular material () through some upper points () of the electrodes () which are arranged vertically and parallel to the tube (), forming a capacitor and being connected to a measuring circuit.
