PURPOSE: A system and method for controlling a glow plug for properly maintaining temperature is provided to increase the service life of the glow plug by preventing a temperature rise range and an excessive temperature rise while maintaining the temperature. CONSTITUTION: A system(100) for controlling a glow plug for properly maintaining temperature comprises a current measuring unit(140), a duty setting unit(130), a unit for calculating compensation duty(150), a control signal generating unit(160). The current measuring unit measures the current flowing through the glow plug. The duty setting unit sets a duty cycle using a measured voltage value from a power unit(300) and a PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) signal from an ECU(Electronic Control Unit)(200). The unit for calculating the compensation duty compares the measured current value with the pre-set target current, and calculates a compensation duty cycle using the set duty cycle. The control signal generating unit generates a control signal using the compensation duty cycle.
