<p>Provided are: irregularly shaped resin particles which have improved characteristics such as light diffusion characteristics and reflection characteristics; and a method for producing the irregularly shaped resin particles. The irregularly shaped resin particles are non-spherical irregularly shaped resin particles, each of which has a circular contour when viewed from the direction in which the particle has the maximum projected area, while having a non-circular contour when viewed from the direction in which the particle has the minimum projected area. Each irregularly shaped resin particle contains a first resin component (1) and a second resin component (2) that are different from each other, and the second resin component (2) is unevenly distributed near the surface of each irregularly shaped resin particle. A method for producing irregularly shaped resin particles is a method in which a polymerizable vinyl monomer in an aqueous emulsion is absorbed by particles that are formed from a resin and polymerized, or a method in which a solution that is obtained by dissolving a resin in a polymerizable vinyl monomer is polymerized in an aqueous medium. The resin has a weight average molecular weight within the range of 150,000-1,000,000 and has a portion that is derived from a (meth)acrylic acid ester which contains a halogenated alkyl group having 2-10 carbon atoms or an alicyclic hydrocarbon group. The polymerizable vinyl monomer contains 5-50% by weight of a crosslinkable monomer.</p> |
