A powder container (21) includes a housing (20) configured to house powder therein, the housing (20) having a hole (26) connecting between inside and outside of the housing (20). The powder container (21) also includes a cover member (27) detachably attached to the housing to close the hole; and a signal exchanging unit (28) configured to transmit and receive a signal to and from an apparatus to which the powder container (21) is mounted. The signal exchanging unit (28) is provided in the cover member (27).
