The device has an expandable stamped part (3), and a holding device i.e. clamping jaw (5a), for holding a pipe (9) on the expandable stamped part. An expansion unit (7) expands the stamped part. The stamped part engages between one end of the pipe and an engagement point of the holding device. The expansion unit is formed as a cylinder (7a) with an attached cone. The stamped part is rotationally symmetrical and partially conical shaped. An independent claim is also included for a method for embossing a bead in a pipe.
