A sheath body of heat sealable ethylene-vinylacetate has an open end for instrument insertion and a sterilisable exterior surface. A separable disposable outer cover of similar material with a sterilisable interior surface encloses the sheath and is sealed to it at the sheath opening. The cover is strippable from the sheath along a tear seal. The outer package may also be paper or cloth having a sealable coating on the interior surface. The package is disposable and designed for economical mass production.
