A door fastening 10 for a vehicle having a door hingedly supported in a door frame comprises a keeper element 66 adapted to be rigidly secured to the door frame and a pivotable tongue element 44, which is mounted in a frame 30 adapted to be rigidly secured to the door and which is engageable with the keeper element 66, wherein the frame 30 incorporates a shroud 100 enclosing a recess having outwardly divergent walls 102, 104 which, in the closed position, engage over complementary convergent surfaces 106, 108 of the keeper element with a wedging action, so as to resist rocking forces tending to move the door relative to the door frame in a direction parallel to the hinge axis of the door. In the embodiment shown the tongue element 44 is pivoted at one end in the shroud 100, and its other end 45 is welded to a connecting rod 22 rotatably mounted in the frame 30, and connected to a second fastening at the upper edge of the door. The tongue element 44 has a tongue portion 60, Fig. 3, having an arcuate face 78 and tapered faces 62, 64 which engage corresponding arcuate and tapered faces 74 and 70, 72 respectively on the keeper element 66.</p> |
