Apparatus for securing a lid to a container body by a hinge flap on the body or lid comprises a conveyer for passing the body, with the lid in position, to an adhesive applicator, means to cause the applicator to apply a strip of adhesive between the flap and body or lid and means to fold down the flap. The body 31 is prefilled with e.g. cigarettes and the lid applied, the so formed units being fed from a shoot 30 in front of dogs 20 (see also Fig. 3) on the conveyer 10. A rail 17 folds back the flap 33 and an applicator 41 as described in Specification 1,176,734, is caused by a cam 50 and control means 60, 63-67, to eject a strip of hot melt adhesive on to the body. A continuation of the rail 17 then folds down the flap and holds it for sufficient time to set the adhesive. It may be cooled to assist setting. Photoelectric means (not detailed) may be used to detect absence of a unit. The body and lid may be of drawn plastics. |
