PURPOSE: An electrowetting display device is provided to improve transmittance and contrast ratio by forming an index matching layer for matching the refractive index between an insulating layer of a hydrophobic material and a pixel electrode, and between a color filter layer of an upper plate and a common electrode. CONSTITUTION: A first index matching layer(219) is formed on a first substrate(210). A second index matching layer(209) is formed on a second substrate(205). The electric field of a first and a second electrode changes the arrangement of opaque first liquid(230) and transparent second liquid(240) to switch light. The thicknesses of the first and the second index matching layer are controlled to improve transmittance. |
