1293718 Photographic process for producing metal images CIBA-GEIGY A G 19 April 1971 [13 March 1970] 23655/71 Heading G2C A process for producing electrically conductive metal images comprises treating a material comprising a support, a silver or copper layer on the support and a layer above the metal layer of a thermoplastic material containing a resicular image with (i) a first organic solvent which attacks the thermoplastic material and opens up the bubbles of the image, (ii) a surfactant, (iii) an etchant to etch the metal under the bubbles and (iv) a second organic solvent to remove the residual thermoplastic material. The metal image obtained may be reinforced by electroplating. Specified first organic solvents are 2-methoxy-ethanol or a binary mixture of (a) 2- methoxyethenol, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, dimethyl formamide, tetrahydrofuran methylene chloride or ethyl acetate with (b) 2-ethoxy ethanol, 2-propoxy ethanol or 1-ethoxy-2-propoxy ethylene. Alternatively, the vapours of acetone, methylene chloride or dimethyl formamide may be used. Specified second organic solvents are acetone, methyl ethyl ketone or methylene chloride. |
