Corona discharge wires 28A, 28B are contained in a receptacle 21 across which stretch wires 30 to guide a sheet to be charged, the receptacle having a removable floor 33 to allow replacement of the discharge wires 28A, B. Floor 33 may be retained by the resilience of the receptacle sides 24A, 24B. Wires 28A, 28B are tungsten, wires 30 are nylon, floor 33 and sides 24A, B are aluminium, iron or ferrous alloy and end members 22, 23 are synthetic resin. The receptacle has projections and recesses 36 to 39 for mating with a similar charging device (121), Fig.5A (not shown), sheets to be charged being fed into a slot defined between the devices.
