PURPOSE: A motor starter having a communication module and a method for controlling a motor starter are provided to monitor the sate of an electromagnetic contactor in real time. CONSTITUTION: A power supply unit supplies power source to a motor starter. A control unit(250) transmits a control signal from a monitoring control part to a MMS(Manual Motor Starter) information and a MC(Magnetic Contactor) information. The control unit controls the MC based on the control signal and the MC information.
