发明名称 COMBINATION LOCKS
摘要
1,263,347. Combination locks. PRESTO LOCK CO. Inc. 5 Sept., 1969 [10 Feb., 1969], No. 44015/69. Heading E2A. A combination lock comprises a plate member 30 or 100 for connection in fixed relation to a support, a fastening assembly L or L' pivotally related to the plate member, the fastening assembly comprising means 35 or 106 co-operable with a keeper B or B', a casing 40 or 110, a fence 42 or 112, the casing having a plurality of aligned spaced openings 48, a shaft 50 or 120 mounted inside the casing for movement therewith, a plurality of dials 54 each positioned to partly extend through a respective one of said openings, sleeve means 56 associated with each dial mounted on the shaft, the sleeve means each having a groove 58, the fence being positioned inside the casing and mounted for movement perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the shaft, the fence having spaced fingers 60, 140 adapted to be received in the grooves when fingers and grooves are in alignment, the sleeve means blocking movement of the fence when the fingers and grooves are out of alignment and co-operable means 64, 66 or 141, 146 provided by the fence and the plate member for imparting movement to the fence upon pivoting of the fastening assembly permitted when the fingers are in alignment with the grooves, the assembly being locked against the plate member when the fingers of the fence are out of alignment with the grooves. In a first construction the means 35 of the assembly is a bolt 35 which in the fastening position extends through an opening 36 in the plate member through an opening 37 in a valance member V of the support and through an opening 38 in the keeper B, the bolt 35 is carried by a frame member 68 which closes the bottom of the casing. The casing is pivoted on extensions 80 of the plate member 30 which engage in a notch provided by an inturned end wall 46 of the casing, the extensions 80 being held in the notch by a spring 74 which is trapped between a notch 72 provided by the bolt 35 and a projection 76 provided by the plate member 30. The fence slides between parallel surfaces of the casing and the frame member 68 and a bent leaf spring interposed between the casing and the fence maintains the fence in the position to which it is moved by the means 64, 66. The means 64 is a cam and the means 66 is an edge of a slot provided in the plate member 30, the arrangement being such that when the dials and their associated sleeve means are in the positions in which the fingers of the fence enter the grooves in the sleeve means the fastening assembly is moved upwardly by the pressure of the spring 74, the cam 64 engaging the edge 66 and moving the fence into the grooves. When the fastening assembly is manually moved against the pressure of the spring 74 in the opposite direction another edge of the cam engages a second edge of the slot in the member 30 so moving the fence out of the grooves. The sleeve means have a keying type connection with the dials and they are held in engagement with the dials by a spring 90 on the shaft. For changing the combination the dials can be rotated relative to their sleeve means and to enable this to be done a forked tool can be inserted through an opening 94 between a side wall 44 of the casing and the frame member 68 to engage a cam member 92 mounted on the shaft and which when moved longitudinally of the shaft moves the sleeve means longitudinally along the shaft out of engagement with their respective dials and against the bias of the spring 90. The dials can then be rotated to any desired position relative to their sleeve means after which the tool is removed and the spring brings the sleeve means and dials back into engagement. In a second construction the plate member 100 is provided with a pair of trunnions 132 by which the fastening assembly is pivotally attached to the plate member, the trunnions being received in recesses in the casing 110 and held in place by a spring 138 which engages the undersides of the trunnions, the shape of the trunnions is such that the pressure of the spring moves the assembly to the releasing position. The means 106 cooperable with the keeper is a U-shaped member pivoted to the casing by means of the shaft 120 which supports the dials and sleeve means. The casing is closed by a frame member 114 and as previously the fence is supported for sliding movement between the casing and the frame member and the means 141 is a cam which forms part of the fence; the means 146 is a recess provided in a boss of the plate member 100 and it moves the fence as the assembly is raised and lowered. To enable the combination to be changed the sleeve means can be moved out of engagement with their respective dials by a shifter member 122 which is disposed in an opening in the frame member and which after, it has been moved longitudinally of the shaft to release the sleeve means from the dials can be rotated into a larger opening to hold the sleeve means against the pressure of a spring 126 to enable the dials to be moved to change the combination. When the shifter member is restored to its normal position the spring restores the sleeve means into keying engagement with the dials.
