The invention relates to a system for monitoring a mixing ratio of a composite coolant (110) in a cooling circuit, in particular for use in a cooling system for motor-powered drives or an air conditioning system in building technology. The system includes an ultrasonic transmitter (102) for coupling in an ultrasonic signal (114) into a coolant volume (112); an ultrasonic receiver (104) for coupling out the ultrasonic signal (114) after said signal passes through the coolant volume (112); and a control device (106) for determining the mixing ratio on the basis of the coupled-out ultrasonic signal (114) and a predetermined relationship between the coolant density and mixing ratio.
