1341685 Rolling DAVY & UNITED ENG CO Ltd 16 June 1971 [1 July 1970] 31839/70 Heading B3M A rolling mill comprises rolls, e.g. 3, forming part of a wheeled unit 4, 5 displaceable vertically in the mill, a pair of horizontal beams 10 extending through the mill and coupled to the unit so that, apart from limited vertical relative movement between the unit and the beams, the beams are displaceable vertically with the unit with the wheels 9 out of engagement with the beams, and latch means 25 displaceable between a first position in which they do not impede the vertical movement of the beams or unit and a second position in which they support the beams and the coupling means 21, 23, 24 permit the unit to be displaced relative to the beams so that the wheels 9 engage the beams and the unit is supported by the beams. In the described embodiment the coupling means include vertically displaceable members 21 having slots 24, there being sufficient free play between the upper surfaces of the slots and projections 23 to allow the wheels 9 to disengage the beams when the unit is raised. To change the roll unit, latches 25 are extended by fluid operated rams so that when the unit is lowered a beam connecting member 26 engages the latches and so allows the wheels to engage the rails. |
