Device and method for sterilisation packaging items

The method involves transporting a plastic preform (10) along a preset transport path by a transport device. A region of the preform is loaded with a flowable medium e.g. photosensitiser present in water, by a loading device (4) during transport. The medium is supplied to the preform via a supply line and/or a nozzle. The flowable medium is contained with colorant. The medium applied on the region is exposed to irradiation of electromagnetic radiation by a radiation device (6) e.g. laser based radiation device, for producing singlet oxygen, which serves for sterilizing the preform. An independent claim is also included for a device for sterilization of packaging items.
