PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical composition containing a fraction of a Curcuma Longa L. extract for preventing alcoholic liver damage is provided to suppress generation of alcoholic lipid peroxide and to enhance antioxidation. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing alcoholic liver damage contains a fraction of a Curcuma Longa L. water extract as an active ingredient. The fraction is prepared by extracting Curcuma Longa L. with hot water and fractioning with chloroform. The liver damage is alcoholic fatty liver, alcoholic hepatitis, or alcoholic cirrhosis. A health functional food for preventing alcoholic liver damage contains the fraction as an active ingredient.
