In a rotary offset printing unit 3, Fig. 1 comprising impression, blanket and plate cylinders 13, 12, 11 which may be readily removed and replaced by cylinders of different diametrical sizes, the blanket and impression cylinders 12, 13 are mounted for vertical displacement each cylinder being supported by a pair of members each movable by a vertical screw and worm arrangement, Fig. 2, the drive to each pair of arrangements comprising a reversible electric motor. In the rotary multi-colour press shown, Fig. 1, a web is fed from a carrier 1 by a feed device 2 to a succession of printing units 3 from which it passes to a sheet cutting device 7 through a drying device 4 and a tensioning device 6. Sheets issuing from the device 7 are directed to a receiving device 10 via a sheet collector 8 and a sheet retarding device 9. Cylinder removal arrangements.-As shown in Figs. 13 and 14 all the cylinders, may be readily moved along slideways prior to lifting in sets of three, appropriate overhead lifting mechanism being provided. Inking arrangements.-The complete inking system, which is shifted automatically when the unit is stopped, is mounted on supports slidably mounted on vertical frame structures the vertical movement of these supports being controlled by non-rotating screw rods driven in a box through a nut device. The ink trough is of the flexible blade type, the blade being adjustable in either direction. The rotational velocity of the ductor roller is adjustable at will by means of a variable speed-gearing. The axially reciprocable inking rollers are driven through eccentrics and a control arrangement which ensures variation of the amplitude of movement.</p> |
