In a milking machine of the type where the teat cups 10 are controlled by a pulsator 14 connected to a vacuum line 16, the degree of vacuum is controlled by valve 24. An air flow detector 26 is provided between the vacuum control valve 24 and the vacuum line 16 to ensure that if the air flow into the system falls below a predetermined level an alarm system is actuated. The air flow detector consists of a tubular body 32 containing a diaphragm 36 in which there is an orifice 38, so that a pressure differential proportional to the air flow is set up between the two sides of the diaphragm. Two pipes 46 and 44 leaving from either side of the orifice are connected to differential pressure switch 30. When the pressure differential falls below a preset value the switch activates lamp 56 and bell 58. |
