<p>A counterbalance (10) for a free-standing guardrail, comprises a block (11) of resilient, rubber-based materiel having a recess (12) disposed therein, the recess (12) being adapted to receive, in use, an elongate member of the guardrail. The block (11) of resilient, rubber-based materiel is moulded from a mixture of granulated, recycled tyre materiel and a binder. In use, if the counterbalance (10) is accidently dropped, it will not shatter but rather the force of impact will be absorbed by the resilient, rubber-based material. Furthermore, due to the resilient nature of the material, a roof surface, on which the guardrail is to be erected, will not be damaged by accidental dropping of the counterbalance (10) thereon.</p> |
