PURPOSE: An optical disk playback device with prescan functionality, a method and an optical disk play system are provided to early detect surface imperfection by using a scanning spot. CONSTITUTION: A first and a second laser and corresponding detectors are turned on(302). A front and rear end scanning spot are formed on the surface of an optical disk(304) by using the first and the second laser. Reflected light is detected from the front and rear end scanning spot(306). If there is surface imperfection, error recovery algorithm is executed(308,310).
