Phosphonitrilic polymers consists of repeating units, statistically distributed of formula: where A and B are satisfied by any combination of two of the gps. X, Y and Z where Y is a monovalent radical chosen from F(CF2)n(CH2)O- and H(CF2)n(CH2)O-, where n is 1-4 and Z is F(CF2)m(CH2)O- or H(CF2)n(CH2)O-, where m is n + 2 to n + 5, and the ratio Y:Z is 1:3 to 3:1, and W is a gp. capable of reaction at moderate temp. and the ratio (Y + Z):W is >5:1. W may be an unsatd. hydrocarbon or fluorocarbon gps. Cl, OH, -OCH=CH2, -OCH2-CH=CH2, -OCH2CH2CH=CH, -OCH2-C(CH3)=CH2 -OSiAnRm where R is an aliphatic or aliphatic or aromatic radical, R' is H, inert aliphatic, aromatic or cyclic radical. A is H, -OH, -OR or -OC(O)-R where R is an inert aliphatic or aromatic radical. The polymers may be formed by partially hydrolysing a linear phosphonitrilic polymer (PNCl3)n, and reacting the OH gps. formed with silanes, alcoholates of acid amides and other agents. The polymers, soluble in fluorocarbons, are cured by heating at 40 degrees - 121 degrees in the presence of a peroxide catalyst, to give polymers with good mechanical and chemical resistance.
|
