The invention is related to a water-vapor-permeable barrier unit (35), constructed with at least one piece of a shoe-reinforcement material (33) having a fiber composite with fiber components having different melting points and softening-temperature ranges. The fiber composite is thermally bonded, while maintaining water-vapor permeability in the thermally bonded area, as a result of thermal activation of a fiber component (3) having a low melting point and a low softening-temperature range. The barrier unit (35), designed to be part of a water-vapor-permeable composite shoe sole (105) having at least on through hole (31), closes off the at least one through hole (31) as a barrier against penetration of foreign objects.
