<p>An elastic core yarn (e.g. of initial length 1 metre) in stretches (to e.g. 8 metres) and an outer non-elastic yarn (e.g. cotton, cellulose) in wound helically around it in one direction, and an outer non-elastic yarn in wound helically around inner non-elastic yarn in opposite direction. When core yarn is released it contracts by a small amt. (e.g. 20-30 cm). Pref non-elastic yarns are impregnated with fireproofing agent. The warp and/or the weft of a fabric may be of the composite yarn. The fabric is used in upholstering and can be fitted without pre-stretching.</p> |
