METHOD FOR PREVENTING RESIDUAL PLEURAL CAVITIES AND PLEURAL EMPYEMA FOLLOWING SEGMENTAL, MULTISEGMENTAL, COMBINED RESECTIONS, LOBECTOMIES IN PATIENTS OPERATED FOR TUBERCULOSIS OF LUNGS AND PLEURA

A method for preventing the residual pleural cavities and pleural empyema following the segmental, multisegmental, combined resections, lobectomies in the patients operated for tuberculosis of the lungs and pleura provides for postoperative draining of the pleural cavity with two drainages. The upper drainage with 2-3 lateral proximal openings is inserted in II-III intercostal along middle axillary line. The proximal end of the drainage is passed to the cupola of the pleural cavity and fixed to the soft intercostal tissues with 1-2 catgut sutures #3. The drainage is removed in 5-9 days following the surgery.
