PURPOSE: An internet protocol television system is provided to partially assign roles of hardware and software to a server. CONSTITUTION: A middleware server(100) receives data except for an A/V stream among IPTV(Internet Protocol Television) transport streams. The middleware server generates GUI(Graphic User Interface) graphic data. A settop box(200) receives the A/V stream among the IPTV transport streams. The settop box receives the GUI graphics data from the middleware server. The settop box combines the A/V stream with the GUI graphic data and outputs the combined A/V stream.
